Just received an angry mail from a student of the University of Jos over
the recent strike action by lecturers .According to what I
gathered, the lecturers have embarked on an indefinite strike action over
none payment of salaries ..Sad situation!
Hey Emeh,
University of Jos has embarked on a strike again! Less than a year after it had gone on a 3 months strike.
Since we got admitted to study in that University, this has been the
fourth strike and all of them have exceeded three months. It is so
painful how a joke the Nigerian educational system is. If you
can't afford a private university you automatically become a joke that
is tossed around by ASUU. And your future gets determined by how
many strikes they choose to go on per year. Is this even right? The
painful part is that no explanation is being offered to the students
paying fees.
Announcement was just made that there would be strike and lecturers were
asked to cease lectures. Every day, we wake up to a new article or
write up calling youths 'lazy' but nobody blames the older generation
for continuously messing up vibrant bloods by their selfish and
inconsiderate actions.
Should a student spend up to 6 years in a University for a 4 year
course? And, we all know if you don't have the certificate nobody looks
at you! I don't blame the people rushing into private universities.
Well, some of us cannot afford it that is why we go to the federal
Universities.
But soon, very soon. The cost of private universities would not matter
and everyone will run there making federal Universities to go extinct!
Or worse, many more people will just skip going to the university. It is
time that this oppression stops! And students are allowed their due
rights to learn without unjust interruptions. The future of Nigeria
should not be placed in the hands of those opportuned. We all deserve a
space!
CONCERNED STUDENT OF THE MESSED UP NIGERIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM!
