"I opened the door and a man I had never seen before was standing on the doorstep. He was holding a large beaker in his hand"
The man who was later identified as David Phillips, shouted: "‘This is
for you, mate,’ and flung his arm up towards me. I’ve never
felt pain like it. My eyes, my face, were on fire. I could feel my face
melting."
Andreas was rushed to hospital where doctors feared
he would die. Ten months on, he has endured hours of surgery, has to
wear a mask to protect his skin and cannot close his eye. He feared
losing his sight completely and never seeing his son again.
"There have been times when I have howled with hysterical tears.
But I am never going to allow what happened to define me." Andrea
Christopheros said. "The idea of not being able to see him crucified me." he said.
Last week David Phillips (pictured above) 49, from Hastings, East
Sussex, was jailed for life after admitting Great Bodily Harm with
intent. He
carried out the sulphuric acid attack after wrongly identifying
Andreas’ house as being the home of a man who sexually assaulted a
relative.
