Its Official: Bentaleb signs new Tottenham deal

Official: Bentaleb signs new Tottenham deal

The 20-year-old has emerged as a key player for Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino and says he is delighted to have committed to remain at White Hart Lane until 2020
Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has signed a new five-year contract that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020.

Talks over a new deal had hit something of an impasse last season, with the Algeria international expressing his dismay at the delay in reaching an agreement, but he has at last penned an extension.
Speaking in June, he said: "I've been working really hard and it's normal for me to want to get rewarded. We've been negotiating for nearly nine months now, since September, and it's getting really long and, of course, I'm getting a little bit tired of it."

But Spurs have made a breakthrough in talks and have secured the future of one of the most promising young midfielders in the Premier League.

"Obviously I'm really happy to commit myself to the club until 2020," he told the club's official website. "It's a good achievement for me, I've been working hard to get a contract like this and I'm pleased.

"You can see how much [the club] means to me by signing a five-year deal and how I fight every day on the pitch. It's football and no matter whether you sign or not it's what you give on the pitch.

"It's been a long way, I've had some up and downs, but most importantly I've learned a lot and I hope I will continue to learn. The club has given me the trust and I have to thank them for that and keep working hard to achieve."

Bentaleb emerged in the 2013-14 campaign under Tim Sherwood, making 15 Premier League appearances in the second half of that campaign, and has gone on to become a key player under Mauricio Pochettino.

The midfielder's availability was disrupted by the Africa Cup of Nations, but he made 26 Premier League appearances last term as Spurs finished fifth and started the League Cup final against Chelsea.
