Galatasaray have confirmed Podolski talks with Arsenal

The 30-year-old forward is set for a medical with the Turkish club on Saturday despite an attempt from Arsene Wenger to convince him to stay at the Emirates Stadium

Galatasaray have confirmed that they are in talks with Arsenal over a deal to sign Lukas Podolski, with the Germany international set to undergo a medical on Saturday.

Podolski has fallen out of favour under Arsene Wenger and spent the second half of last season on an unhappy loan spell with Inter.

His agent claims that the Gunners boss had wanted to keep him at the Emirates Stadium but only as a squad player and that was not enough for the 30-year-old.

A statement to the stock exchange read: "Formal negotiations have begun with Arsenal FC over the transfer of Lukas Josep Podolski, with the player to arrive in Istanbul [on Saturday] morning for medical checks at Istanbul Liv Hospital.
